Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC is a major center for both women’s health and comprehensive medical-surgical care. Nearly 11,000 babies are born at Magee each year, accounting for 45 percent of all births in Allegheny County. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the largest in Pennsylvania and one of the largest in the country, treats more than 1,500 seriously or critically ill babies each year. Additionally, Magee offers services for adults, including geriatrics, and bariatric surgery. Magee has partnered with the UPMC Stroke Institute to implement a stroke telemedicine system to help assess potential stroke patients and deliver timely treatments.
Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC’s Emergency Department (ED) sees more than 25,000 patients each year. In January 2014 it moved into a new space with 22 private rooms.
