Alan Hodgdon is currently a casual employee of UPMC. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. He previously served as the Executive Medical Director of the HMC-UPMC Emergency Medicine Enhancement Project located in Doha, Qatar. This project was a partnership between the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Hamad Medical Center of Qatar. The projects' broad goals were to improve emergency care in the two major hospitals of Qatar and in the prehospital system.

Dr. Hodgdon did his undergraduate medical training at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado and attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center n San Antonio, Texas. He attended the University of Pittsburgh Residency in Emergency Medicine. Following completion of his residency, he began work as emergency physician at UPMC Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh.

During his fifteen years at Mercy Hospital he served various roles in the hospital and within his 20 member emergency medicine group. As part of his responsibility, he was selected to be the Medical Director of the emergency department at Mercy Providence Hospital. Here e served as Medical Director, Department of Emergency Medicine for ten years.

Dr. Hodgdon is actively involved with global medicine and travels extensively overseas. He helped to establish emergency medicine as a specialty in Turkey. He has a long standing interest in aviation medicine, worked as a senior Aviation Medical Examiner with the Federal Aviation Administration and serves as the Chief of Aerospace Medicine with a local Air National Guard unit.
