Access to the outdoors! [Pittsburgh has] all the amenities of a medium sized city, but within 20 minutes you can be outside the city and in a huge park or state forest. Within hours you can be basically in the middle of nowhere.

About Me

Hometown: Rochester, NY
College/University: Rochester Institute of Technology
Medical School: Albany Medical College

What are your career goals?
I'd really like to be an emergency medicine attending

What did you do the summer before internship?
Nothing, there was a pandemic so I stayed at home like I was told.

What do you like to do outside of medicine?
Pet my dog. Smoke meats. Mountain bike. Road cycle. Golf. Cook. Cheer for the Buffalo Bills.

Reflections on the Pitt EM Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
Large alumni network spread around the country. Extensive and easy-to-get-involved EMS program. Quaternary care center with multiple specialties, but also significant time spent at sites with good consultant support, but with a more typical patient population for a community EP.

What are the strengths of the Pitt EM program?
Multiple sites. It is nice to see 4 large EDs that are all run slightly differently and with different patient populations to get a sense of what each feels like, what works well, and what inefficiencies each system has.

EMS program here is top notch for those interested, but the time commitment month to month is small for those focused on other areas of emergency medicine.

Tell us about your residency classmates! How long did it take to connect?
Dr. Raj made us walk down some sketchy path, jump a fence, and cross train tracks just to get some mediocre soft-serve and I was locked in.

What has surprised you most about Pitt?
Its size and children's stocking Goldfish graham crackers.

About Pitt EM and Pittsburgh

What do you like best about living in Pittsburgh/Western PA?
Access to the outdoors! All the amenities of a medium sized city, but within 20 minutes you can be outside the city and in a huge park or state forest. Within hours you can be basically in the middle of nowhere.

Where did you choose to live, and why?
Squirrel Hill because I wanted a back yard for BBQs, be within minutes of Frick Park, and take strolls around the neighborhood.

What advice would you give to incoming residents about moving to the 'Burgh?
1. Get disability insurance.
2. Lawrenceville is overpriced; move to Squirrel Hill for a nicer neighborhood, bigger apartments, and green space.
3. Hire movers, its just not worth carrying things yourself.
4. Open a Roth IRA.
