PGY-3

Leadership is extremely approachable and receptive to the feedback given by the residents. There is excellent teaching from the attendings and the reputation and prestige of the hospital system means we get exposed to all types of cases early on during intern year.

About Me

Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
College/University: Columbia University in the City of New York
Medical School: Howard University College of Medicine

What are your career goals?
Live in a city working as an attending ER physician and working in conjunction with local or federal law enforcement as a tactical medicine specialist. If I have the time I'd also be interested in doing research into neurocritical care protocols in the ED for conditions like ischemic stroke, brain bleeds or seizures.

What did you do the summer before internship?
Make up my surgery clerkship that I had to miss due to COVID-19.

What do you like to do outside of medicine?
I like to watch movies, explore new bars and restaurants in the city, go to the gym, hiking, playing soccer and rock climbing.

Reflections on the Pitt EM Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a residency program that would allow me to explore my interest in pre-hospital medicine, while also giving me expert instruction in complex patient presentations in the ED.

What are the strengths of the Pitt EM program?
Leadership is extremely approachable and receptive to the feedback given by the residents. There is excellent teaching from the atttendings and the reputation and prestige of the hospital system means we get exposed to all types of cases early on during intern year.

Tell us about your residency classmates! How long did it take to connect?
My classmates were really warm and welcoming so we connected as soon as Match Day when we all found out we matched at UPMC.

What is one thing that surprised you about Pitt/UPMC?
The level of resources and experts that we have available to us in the ED, ranging from consultations from every department imaginable to a social work department that we can call 24/7.

About Pitt EM and Pittsburgh

What do you like best about living in Pittsburgh/Western PA?
Getting to try the new bars and restaurants that the city has to offer.

Where did you choose to live, and why?
I live in The Strip because I wanted to live in a neighborhood filled with people my own age and with a very active nightlife.

Based on your experiences, what advice would you give to incoming applicants about moving to the 'Burgh?
The roads will certainly take some getting used to but the city has a lot to offer and use your free time to explore with your friends and your new intern cohorts.
