UPMC Mercy Hospital

UPMC Mercy was founded by the Sisters of Mercy.  Known as the Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, it was the city's first hospital, and the first Mercy Hospital in the world.  In 2008, the institution merged with UPMC and was renamed UPMC Mercy. Today, with 404 acute care beds, Mercy is the region's largest faith-based acute-care academic and research hospital.

The UPMC Mercy Emergency Department (ED) sees more than 67,000 patients each year, and is a designated Level-1 Trauma Center. UPMC Mercy also features an American Burn Association-verified Burn Center, and is the only hospital within Western Pennsylvania that provides Level I trauma and burn care.  UPMC Mercy ED additionally contains a 24-hour emergency psychiatric evaluation and treatment center, and is designated by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center.

UPMC Mercy’s many resources, combined with its tradition of excellence in medical education and research, create a rich and stimulating training environment.
