Reflections on the Pitt EM Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
A culture of friendly people who I could rely on to make residency enjoyable even when we're busy.

What are the strengths of the Pitt EM program?
Very responsive leadership, diverse training environment, heavy EMS integration.

Tell us about your residency classmates! How long did it take to connect?
It took us about 2 hours to connect, and we had plenty of orientation time to get to know each other.

What has surprised you most about UPMC/Pitt?
Working in multiple different settings. I thought it would be a pain but it's actually provided great variety, with the ability to work with experts in trauma, OB/GYN, Oncology, and more.

About Pitt EM and Pittsburgh

What do you like best about living in Pittsburgh/Western PA?
It's a decent-sized city with a lot of young people and a lot to do, but also the option to be in the forest hiking or camping within 30 minutes.

Where did you choose to live, and why?
I live in Shadyside because it's a fairly central location and it's one of the flattest places in this city.

Based on your experiences, what advice would you give to incoming applicants about moving to the 'Burgh?
It's worth it to pay extra for designated parking, and visit your friends in other neighborhoods because each part of town has something unique and great to offer.
